YA book reviews, reading and recommending since 2009

Bianca wants to escape.
She’s been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn’t fit in.
Then she meets Lucas. He’s not the “Evernight type” either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him.
“I couldn’t stand it if they took it out on you,” he tells Bianca, “and eventually they would.”
But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can’t be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she’s ever believed.

Is it possible that this is the best vampire book I have ever read? Um YES! I was so amazed at how much I loved this book. Oh my, I am going to get all fangirly now. Evernight started out interestingly. I liked how Lucas and Bianca first met. Eventually their romance progressed and Lucas was quite protective of Bianca.

Unlike Edward, Lucas has a better reason to protect Bianca. We all know Edward feels protective of Bella because she’s a fragile little human … but Lucas thinks that Bianca’s parents aren’t her real parents and that she doesn’t know the dangers of the school. I think it’s so sweet. But of course there’s a little twist half way in the book and my jaw dropped. I had to reread that line three times. I know that this is a vampire book but apart from that, I had no idea what to expect.

In most books, there is always a love triangle. Evernight is no exception. Enter Balthazar, his handsome, charming and treats everyone fairly. Not only is there a love triangle, there’s something much bigger.

In conclusion, every vampire fan should read this book. You will enjoy it. I am going to get Stargazer soon and eagerly waiting for Hourglass and Afterlife to be out.

Gold star

    Really good review!

I haven’t read this yet but I’m going to see Claudia and Elizabeth Scott when I’m down in D.C. so I’ll be getting it soon. I really can’t wait to read them now that I read this!

  2. I love Evernight!

  3. Great review : }. This is on my tbr list for this week.

  4. I read this and loved it, and got all my friends *who hate reading and hate vampires* to read it and they adored it. The plot twist was shocking. But it was a well done book. Stargazer is a must, in my opinion it’s better then Evernight. Anyways awesome review.

  5. Great review. I really liked Evernight too it was a good take on the vampire genre.

This book was great, there was an unexpected shock for me around the middle! Didn’t like Balthazar tbh even though he was a nice guy ;p

  7. I love vampire books but couldn’t quite get into this one. Your review was well written.

  8. Ohh! You know, I’ve read conflicting reviews on this book. Which had made me a little hesitant as to whether I should read it. Buut, you’ve now leaned me more toward the “Hurry up and grab a copy!” lane. I’m definitely a fan of vampire books. My absolute favourite are the Vampire Academy series, plus I’m a fan of Twilight too. So hopefully this one will earn a place on my bookshelf!

  9. I read and lined this book. It was a different take on vampire and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

  10. I *LOVED* this to pieces. The athmosphere, the writing, the characters. I find Lucas very, very dreamy. And I totally loved it how you can’t really tell who the vampire is at the beginning – Bianca, Lucas, neither, ort maybe both? And after the big revelation it’s all “yeah, I’m a vampire, so what? Don’t tell me you hadn’t guessed it before”. Lol. Can’t wait to read Stargazer.

  11. Mmmm…loved this book. 🙂 Nice review!
