Spotted On Shelves Saturday

I decided to have this new feature called Spotted On Shelves Saturday. This features a book or maybe several new arrivals I spot in bookstores. Everyone’s welcome to join in, do let me know if you do this too. I don’t think anyone has come up with this yet. If someone has, please let me know.

My email is kate.readthisbook (at) gmail (dot) com.

In My Mailbox (2)

In My Mailbox was started by The Story Siren and she was inspired by Alea.

This week I didn’t get any books in the mail but I did borrow and buy several books.

The Borrowed
Just One Wish by Janette Rallison
Jars Of Glass by Brad Barkley & Heather Hepler

The Bought
Something Maybe by Elizabeth Scott *squeal*
Zombie Queen of Newbury High by Amanda Ashby
I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You by Ally Carter

Hopefully next week I will get my eagerly anticipated books in the mail. 😀 Something Maybe is the first hardcover book I bought all year! It cost a bomb but I’m sure it’s worth it. =)

(Sorry for the lousy picture quality. Camera phones suck. I’ll try to take a better picture soon.)

Oh. My. Gods. by Tera Lynn Childs

If Phoebe Castro can keep her grades up and have another stellar cross-country season, her dream of attending USC with her best friends is only a track scholarship away. She’s made all her plans, so it’s a complete shock when her mom announces she’s marrying a mysterious stranger and moving them half-way around the world—to Greece.

Phoebe’s stuck on a secret island in the Aegean attending the super-exclusive Academy, where her new stepfather is the headmaster and the kids are anything but your average students—they are descendants of the Greek gods, super powers included. That’s right, Greek gods are no myth! If Phoebe thought high school was hard, she knows this is going to be mortal misery.

Securing that scholarship seems like Phoebe’s only ticket out of Greece, but training and maintaining her grades will be grueling, even without a sabotaging stepsister from Hades and a gorgeous guy—what a god!—who just might be her Achilles heel. One thing is for sure—summoning the will to win and find her place among the gods could be Phoebe’s toughest course yet.

The Greek gods get a makeover in this romantic odyssey of mythic proportion.

The story is part “Harry Potter,” part Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief and part shojo, and it will keep teens, particularly girls, reading. — School Library Journal I totally agree!

Oh. My. Gods. was amazing. The story has Greek myths together with some modern day aspects. The characters were enjoyable and all had different distinct personalities. The storyline was good and I liked how it wasn’t predictable! I didn’t know what to expect. I laughed many times while read O.M.G.This book was very addictive. I just had to know more. I craved for more. Luckily, there is still more to the series. The sequel is Goddess Boot Camp which will be out June 11, 2009. According to the interview I did with TLC, Goddess Boot Camp will be set in the following summer and Damian and Valerie are headed off on their honeymoon, leaving Phoebe and Stella home alone. There’s more yummy Griffin, kick-butt Nicole, and sweet Troy. And, yes, even more Adara. This time there’s also a little more adventure in the story, both at Phoebe’s Boot Camp and in the form of anonymous messages about her Dad.

TLC is also working on another book, Forgive My Fins (out Summer 2010) the story of a half-mermaid princess attending high school on the mainland and the adventure that ensues when she accidentally kisses the wrong boy.

To sum up my feelings for Oh. My. Gods., it was fantastic. The book was just so darn good. If you were planning on reading Oh. My. Gods., I hoped this review convinced you to read it! You will love it

What do you want to know about Melissa, TLC and Stephanie?

Edit: I already sent out the part three interviews but if you want I can squeeze in one or two more questions. =] So ask now!

Hope you guys haven’t forgotten my three book interview giveaway! 😀 I am now giving you a chance to ask the authors what YOU want to know about THEM! Please specify which author the question is for. If it’s for all three authors, just say ALL. XD Make sure the question you’re asking has not already been asked!

Leave your questions in the comments below.

Question to TLC: Have you ever had any ghostly encounters before?
Question to all: Have you ever bought something and regretted buying it?

Hurry! I’m sending out the interview part three soon.
