Finally, Part Three: get to know the authors. Let’s welcome Stephanie Hale. -applauds-

1. As a child, who was your fave cartoon character?
I had brief, but intense, love affairs with Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake (Blueberry Muffin was actually my fav), Care Bears, and the Smurfs. But my favorite cartoon to watch was, and still is, Scooby-Doo!

2. Which subject were you least good in, in high school?
I flunked Geometry. I just totally hated it and wouldn’t study. Then I had to redo it in summer school which was HORRIBLE!

3. Did you love or dread Valentine’s Day in high school?
This is an awesome question. Valentine’s Day in HS was more stressful than taking the ACT’s. If you got a delivery they would call your name to come to the office and get it. Then you could parade your over-priced flowers/balloons/candy through the halls like a giant trophy. I’m pretty sure I put the fear of God into my boyfriends so I always got something!

4. How were your grades like in high school?
You know I always thought with the exception of Geometry I did pretty good. But recently I came upon my old report cards and there were a lot more B’s and C’s then I remember. I got straight A’s in crushing boys though, although there isn’t much demand in the job market for that one.

5. How did you cope with homework?
Osmosis. You have to remember that when I was in high school, we didn’t have near the demands that today’s students face. I do remember having a study hall period and I could get most of my homework done during that. But now, even my kindergartener has homework every night.

6. What do you do when you are very stressed?
Yell.

7. If someone told you 10 years ago that you would be a writer, what would your reaction be?

1. What was your high school experience like?
High school was a blast. I went to a really small school with about 350 people and everyone got along really well.

2. What was the craziest thing you ever done while in high school?
Probably the time I drove six hours to see a guy only to miss him by five minutes!

3. Which was your fave subject back then?
I enjoyed my psychology class and band.

4. What books did you like to read when you were in high school?
I was so busy in high school that I didn’t read much besides magazines.

5. What was your dream job when you were in high school?
When I was in high school everyone wanted to work at the movie theatre. That was where everyone would go on the weekends and I was so jealous of the people that got paid to see everyone. Plus, they always knew who was going on a date!

6. Did you ever have a part time job during vacations when you were in high school?
I worked at a hardware store the entire time I was in high school. It was a total blast.

7. Where did you and your friends hang out after school?
I usually had to go straight from school to work. Sometimes my friends would come visit me at work.

8. What would you usually have for lunch?
I have no idea why I remember this but I ate barbeque potato chips and chocolate milk almost every single day!

9. Ever eaten in a toilet stall like Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls?
Ew, no way.

10. Did you like school dances or the prom?
I loved all the dances, unfortunately I usually ended up hating my dates though!

Interview with Stephanie Hale part one

Today we have the brilliant Stephanie Hale to talk about her books. Stephanie is the author of the Aspen Brooks series. Melissa Walker also did a cover story on Stephanie’s books, you can read it at her blog.

1. How did you get the idea of writing the Aspen Brooks series?
I honestly don’t know. Aspen just popped into my head one day and wouldn’t shut up!

2. How long did it take for you to write Revenge of the Homecoming Queen (first book in the Aspen Brooks series)?
The only writing time I have is my boys naptimes and bedtimes, so it took me about nine months.

3. Was it a difficult process getting your first book published?
Getting published is difficult. There is lots of competition and only so many publishers. If you really want to be a published author you can’t give up.

4. Did you put any of your real life experiences in your books?
I have asthma and so does Aspen, so I really know what it’s like to experience an attack. And my freshman class really did choose a geek to be on the homecoming court one year.

5. How can you relate to your main character, Aspen?
Like Aspen, I’m extremely loyal to the people I love.

6. What is the best thing that has happened to you since you became a writer?
Every time I sell another book it is the best feeling in the world!

7. What did you research on while writing your books?
Dooney & Bourke purses!

8. What do you do when you have a writer’s block?
I’ve never had a block but I do take lots of time off. If I don’t feel like writing I never force it.

9. If the Aspen Brooks series were to become a movie, who’d you like to play the main characters?
Aspen- Hayden Panettiere
Rand- Shia La Beouf
Angel- Alexa Vega
Lucas-Cody Linley

10. What are you currently working on?
Right now I’m starting my first adult novel so we’ll see how that goes.
