In My Mailbox (22)
In My Mailbox was started by The Story Siren and she was inspired by Alea.
YAY! This week I finally received a book in my mailbox. It’s my first order from Book Depository. Also bought some new books from the bookstore. I am super excited to read them all. Horray, my TBR pile has increased. *hums a happy tune*

In My Mailbox:
The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson
Bought:
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
Shiver was soo gorgeous in real life. <3
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Even though the pb is already out, I still bought the hardcover because I found the cover really nice and the font is so much bigger.
From the library:

Goddess Boot Camp by Tera Lynn Childs
The Lost Summer by Kathryn Williams
Twilight Director’s Notebook
*Squee* you have no idea how long I waited for Twilight Director’s Notebook. Probably three or four months!

Synopsis: For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She’s never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can’t decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen – and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.
Review: After reading the first two chapters on the Simon & Schuster website, I knew I would love this book. And sure enough, I did. It’s not like this topic hasn’t been done before, forbidden romance. However Becca has written a novel with the same idea but the writing is exceptional. Reading Hush Hush was like riding a roller coaster, the story moves in a fast pace and before you know it, it’s over. I long to go back into Patch’s and Nora’s world and experience everything again.
Nora is an excellent protagonist. Like Patch describes her, she’s attractive, intelligent and vulnerable. Her emotions are perfectly captured and portrayed. Patch is a very intriguing guy and more so when he is reluctant to talk about his past. Though he can be provocative –and flirtatious at times, he is very attractive and has this ‘good’ side of him. Despite Nora feeling uncomfortable with Patch, she is drawn to him. Her best friend, Vee, is affable but don’t insult her because she can be rather sharp-tongued!
There is one part towards the end when everything seemed so surreal (hint: that part reminded me of Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones), I wanted Nora to run and hug Patch. I wanted to cry during that part, honestly. I can feel Nora’s pain and when she questions her sanity, I got quite a bit emotional at that point.
I hereby declare Patch from Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick my favourite YA guy. Trust me, by the time you are done with Hush Hush, you’ll be like Edward who?
My only problem with Hush Hush is the whole similarity with that vampire book. I completely agree with Steph from Reviewer X. Once or twice I had the déjà vu feeling, personally I feel the book would have been better if the scenes were altered in way that makes it unique ( read Steph’s review here).
Part romance and part mystery, Hush Hush will appeal to both young adults as well as adults. Be sure to buy Hush Hush when it’s out in stores October 2009 or preorder it from Amazon/Barnes and Noble/Book Depository. You bet I am getting Crescendo, but that might take a while since Becca just turned in Crescendo to her editor not too long ago. But not to worry, Hush Hush is a great (great is an understatement) spectacular, extraordinary book by itself, everything wraps up nicely at the end. If you want me to describe Hush Hush I would say it is a stunning riveting phenomenal novel which would keep readers hanging onto every page.

Synopsis:
With a summer job at Bob & Bob Records in Berkeley, California, teen music junkie Allie is ready for anything. She’s poised to fall in love, catch a thief, and make a mix that’ll break your heart. And when she blogs as The Vinyl Princess, Allie is the sort of mystery girl you can’t resist tuning into. Get ready for the vinyl revolution!
Author Yvonne Prinz, cofounder of Amoeba Music, the world’s biggest independent music store chain, brings readers into the inspired, obsessive, irrepressible heart of a teen who is head-over-heels in love with music. Like a great record, this read will rock your soul and rattle your bones.
This book sounds good! Music, mystery, blogging three of my fave things. December… the wait won’t be too long.

As You Wish by Jackson Pearce
Ever since Viola’s boyfriend broke up with her, she has spent her days silently wishing—to have someone love her again and, more importantly, to belong again—until one day she inadvertently summons a young genie out of his world and into her own. He will remain until she makes three wishes.
Jinn is anxious to return home, but Viola is terrified of wishing, afraid she will not wish for the right thing, the thing that will make her truly happy. As the two spend time together, the lines between master and servant begin to blur, and soon Jinn can’t deny that he’s falling for Viola. But it’s only after Viola makes her first wish that she realizes she’s in love with Jinn as well . . . and that if she wishes twice more, he will disappear from her life—and her world—forever.
Jackson Pearce spins a magical tale about star-crossed lovers, what it means to belong . . . and how important it is to be careful what you wish for.
I had high hopes for As You Wish and I can safely say that Jackson Pearce did not disappoint.
As You Wish is told in alternating chapters between Viola and Jinn. Jinn by the way is the name Viola calls him but he is really a jinn and has no name. Jackson Pearce kept me hooked onto As You Wish from the first page. Viola has this fresh honest voice which I love. Her thoughts and feelings were evident and heartfelt. Reading the book in Jinn’s POV gave me a good idea on how he was feeling and his intentions.
Character development for both Jinn and Lawrence were exceptionally good. The time the three of them spent together were the best moments in the book. Jackson Pearce did an marvelous job weaving the story together and capturing the emotions perfectly. The story was witty and very very funny. Fantastic characters.
The ending was good, not too cliche. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot but overall, it was a memorable sweet book which I definitely recommend to everyone.
I look forward to reading Jackson Pearce’s future books. As You Wish is the type of book that stays in your head for a long time after reading it. I simply loved it!
As You Wish comes out today. Get it now on Amazon or wherever books are sold.
